Obituary for Winnifred "Winnie" MacIver

After a long illness, Winnie, beloved wife of the late John MacIver of Sydney, completed her life’s journey on Monday October 9, 2023.

Winnie was born in Ingonish on November 19, 1941; she was the youngest daughter of the late Henry and Catherine (Hardy) Roper.

Winnie was a member of St. Andrews United Church and a former member of the UCW unit 9, a CGIT leader and Sunday School Teacher. She was a long time employee of Sears Canada. She enjoyed spending her summers at the trailer, where she made many lifelong friends. Winnie loved music and enjoyed listening to stories and occasional visits from the family pets for whom held a special place in her heart.

Winnie is survived by her sons, Glenn (Gail), Port Hawkesbury and Robert (Shawna Casagrande), Sydney; her pride and joy, grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica), Halifax, Alyson (Kyle Melanson) MacIver, Truro, Casandra, Alaska; great-grandchildren, Brina, Izzy, Luna, Bentley, Xander; and one sister, Stella Hardy, Sydney.

Besides her parents and husband, Winnie was predeceased by her sister, Norma Fraser; and brothers-in-law, Ronald Fraser and Gordon Hardy.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Visitation will take place in Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 12-2 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the Chapel at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Thomas Whent officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
