Obituary for Shirley Mason Macdonald
We, the family of Shirley Mason Macdonald, regretfully announce her passing on Sunday, May 21, 2023, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born June 1, 1925, in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Muriel (McAlpine) Macdonald.
Shirley was a member of the former St. Andrew’s United Church, Sydney, where she was involved with the UCW. She was also a member of the IODE and enjoyed volunteering as a Girl Guide leader.
She is survived by her sons, Norman A. Macdonald and Stewart (Debbie) Macdonald; son-in-law, Alan (Judy) Peddle; grandchildren, Kristopher (Amanda) Macdonald, Robin (Gerrod) Glauner, Cindy (Doug) MacAulay, Lindsey Macdonald, Holly (James) Johnson, Scott (Angela) Macdonald, Brian (Christie) Macdonald, Elizabeth Macdonald, Jennifer Peddle, Kate (Shamus) Peddle and Sandy (James) Peddle; and 25 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband, A.J.W. “Sandy” Macdonald; daughter, Linda Peddle; daughter-in-law, Lorraine Macdonald; sister, Isabel Henning; brothers, Norman A. and Kenneth Macdonald; and grandson, Timothy Macdonald.
A family graveside service will be held in Hardwood Cemetery on Sunday, May 28th at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Thomas Whent officiating.
