Obituary for Eva Elizabeth "Bette" Biggar

It is with sadness that her family announces the passing of Eva Elizabeth ‘Bette” Biggar on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born December 12, 1926, in Cowansville, QC, she was the sixth and youngest child of the late William J. and Eva (Scott) Craigie.

After being married to Irvin in 1951, Bette moved to Lacolle, QC, where she was “a fantastic homemaker” and “Mom” - a person who was well-appreciated for her friendly demeanour, as well as for her baking and knitting. She was also quite active in her church, the UCW, choir and Sunday school.

During the past 10 years “she has done the best that she could” at Parkland Cape Breton, with many thanks to the staff at that location.

Bette is survived by her son, the Rev. Bob Biggar of Sydney Forks and by her daughter, Jean (Bob) Peterson of Victoria, BC, as well as by her grandchildren, Andrew Biggar, Christopher Peterson (Laura Harris) and Gregory Peterson (Charlotte Dale), along with her great-granddaughter, Leigh Peterson.

Bette was the last surviving member of her birth family. She was also predeceased by her husband, R. Irvin Biggar in 2007 and her daughter-in-law, Marie Biggar in 2017.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Huntingdon, QC.
